These individuals must effectively carry out the daily activities in their areas of responsibility, translate the organizational goals to the activities that must be carried out at the point of care, set the culture in their microsystem, and provide support for the improvement teams. In order to provide that support, Experienced Managers must be familiar with the terms, methods and tools for quality and safety improvement.

At the end of the role of experienced Manger in Improving patient safety participants will be able to:

• List three ways in which managers can free up time from  busy schedules.
• Describe two tools which are commonly used to improve quality and safety.
• Discuss the role of middle managers in developing a culture of safety.
• Develop a plan to support  a middle manager’s efforts to improve quality and safety in alignment with the organization’s aims.
